The high temperature reached 93 degrees at 320 PM, setting a new
record high for this date. This breaks the old record of 92 set in
1995.

08/20/2012 – Update
The National Weather Service has determined that July 2012 was a record breaker. It broke the old record set in 1936 by .2 F. That makes it not only the hottest July but the hottest month for the lower 48 states since national records began in 1985.

The heat here in Syracuse in July (it was almost 5 degrees above normal) continues a trend that has gone on for much of the year so far. Only April had below normal temperatures. Here is where we stand after seven months (after adding July):

(We’ve had a record number of 90° days this year, so this excerpt from an earlier post deserved it’s very own entry!)
We all have our own idea of what “HOT” weather is, but one of the easiest ways to gauge just how hot the summer has been is to look at how many 90 degree days occur.
During a typical year there are 7 days in Syracuse where the temperature reaches or exceeds 90 degrees. It has happened as early as April 16 (2012) and as late as September 29 (1959).
There has also been 7 years without ever hitting 90 degree’s in Syracuse with the last time coming in 2000.
