Where’s the Snow ?

Here in Fairmount we’ve got just about 2″ of snow so far this year, a little here and a little there add’s up to very little.
Last year at this time we had 4 Feet on the ground!
Other area’s around CNY have seen several inch’s so far this year, but Officially at Syracuse’s Hancock Airport there has been just a tenth of an inch recorded this month (December)
We were on the way for the record of least snowiest December on record, but the snow we
got just before Christmas brought our December total to 7.0″
So we’ll settle for 2nd place
Here are the top 6 least snowy Decembers in Syracuse:

Rank Value Year
1 5.9 1994
2 7.0″ 2011
3 7.1″ 1965
4 7.3″ 2001
5 8.8″ 1986
6 10.9″ 1982

This year is such a contrast to what we in Central New York “perceive” as normal December snowfall.
Heck I just got the snowblower ready last weekend!

Normally, 28.3” of snow is recorded in Syracuse in December. Interestingly enough, if you look at the previous 6 Decembers, half of them were among the 5 snowiest Decembers in Syracuse!
We’re also seeing paltry snow, right beside the snowiest December since 1949.

The latest in December we’ve gone until we’ve seen our first inch of seasonal snow is December 22, 1998.

Here are the least snowiest winters:

Rank Value Year
1 59.4″ 2001-02
2 66.0″ 1982-83
3 66.9″ 1994-95
4 76.1″ 1956-57
5 77.3″ 1961-62
6 77.5″ 1952-53
7 79.0″ 1980-81
8 81.2″ 1967-68
9 81.2″ 1972-73
