Christmas Eve 2015 will officially go down in the records books as the warmest ever on record in Syracuse.
The previous record of 58° set in 1957 was shattered at 4am Thursday morning when the temperature jumped from 56 to 63 degrees. And it kept climbing from there.
The temperatures kept rising until about noon through the upper 60s.
Officially to top off at (68°) 66° (Fairmount Hills) Thursday.
The warm surge is not sticking around. This afternoon a cold front will sweep across New York State and slowly drop our temperatures. By Christmas Eve dinner-time or services, it will be dry and temperatures will be mainly in the 50s. Some 40s could show up by the end of midnight masses.
While not record breaking, mild weather will be with us Christmas Day with highs still in the low 50s.
Just last Christmas Day Syracuse was 59 F with no snow on the ground or in the air.
The normal high for Christmas is 34 F degrees.
Meanwhile, Syracuse is still on pace to have the warmest December on record. Through December 23rd, the average temperature was 42.1 F which is almost 4 degrees above the current warmest December (2006).
