October 12 – 13, 2012 will bring us our 1st freeze of the season, essentially ending the growing season, in Central New York.

…FREEZE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 PM THIS EVENING TO
9 AM EDT SATURDAY…
* LOCATIONS…CENTRAL NEW YORK AND NORTHEAST PENNSYLVANIA.
* TEMPERATURES…GENERALLY IN THE 20S…BUT UPPER TEENS POSSIBLE
ACROSS THE COLDEST SECTIONS OF THE CENTRAL SOUTHERN TIER AND CATSKILLS.
* TIMING…THE ONSET OF BELOW FREEZING TEMPERATURES OVER THE
FINGER LAKES IN NEW YORK AND THE WYOMING VALLEY IN
PENNSYLVANIA WILL BE SHORTLY AFTER MIDNIGHT. ELSEWHERE…SUB-
FREEZING TEMPERATURES WILL START BETWEEN 9 PM AND MIDNIGHT.
TEMPERATURES WILL NOT RISE BACK ABOVE FREEZING UNTIL AFTER 8
AM.
* IMPACTS…TEMPERATURES BELOW FREEZING FOR SEVERAL HOURS
TONIGHT WILL KILL SENSITIVE VEGETATION. IF POSSIBLE…PROTECT
SENSITIVE VEGETATION BY BRINGING THEM INSIDE OR HARVESTING
CROPS. THIS WILL END THE GROWING SEASON.

A FREEZE WARNING MEANS SUB-FREEZING TEMPERATURES ARE IMMINENT OR HIGHLY LIKELY. THESE CONDITIONS WILL KILL CROPS AND OTHER SENSITIVE VEGETATION.

a record low temperature of 26 degrees was set at Binghamton NY this
morning. This breaks the old record of 28 set in 1993.

The growing season has ended. Temperatures in most locations in
central New York and northeast Pennsylvania have fallen below
freezing this morning. The National Weather Service in Binghamton
New York will not issue any more freeze warnings, freeze
watches, or frost advisories until Spring 2013.
